A COVID-19 Solution
INITAL CHALLENGES
Once the country got stay at home orders for COVID-19, we knew that divers wouldn’t be traveling to tropical diving spots anytime soon.
We wanted to help those that missed their happy place - and fast. Travel restrictions grew by the week, so we didn’t want to waste any time. We quickly got the product team together to identify how we might help these divers. We gathered hypotheses and I created our initial tests.
Much to our surprise, some people were diving! When I started to dig into the results, though, I saw that it was mostly coastal residents. How could we encourage and educate land-locked divers to continue to explore their passion?
Understanding our customer
I started with diver interviews to understand their COVID-19 and diving pains. Using the interviews, I identified how the divers fit with our current personas so we could expand on them. Elliot’s story jumped off paper and into voices and stories.
Focusing the group of stakeholders on personas was very important part of the project. The group had a lot of ideas and goals, but the personas helped us concentrate on who we can help and how.

Once we had our personas prioritized, I crafted some journey maps to help tell their stories. The journey map showed us the best places to help divers.
Creating potential solutions
Ideation in the early stages of COVID-19 was interesting! Thankfully there are so many free tools to help us in our time of need! Prompting the group, we came up with some great solutions, voting for the most realistic and useful.
